The Ugly Word
"I have cancer" are scary words you never want to hear from some one you love. It is still hard to believe my friend Alyce Munnerlyn was diagnosed with breast cancer this year. Our group of friends have sat around before talking about life and getting older and I remember us saying a while back that with the odds of cancer one of us will get it one day. Knowing that was a possibility doesn't prepare you when it happens to one of your closest friends, especially when it's someone young, vibrant & full of life like Alyce. It's not the kind of thing you can prepare for or be ready for. When she told me the news I was sad, scared, overwhelmed and mad but now I'm hopeful. Alyce has had a lot thrown at her over the past couple of years but she is a fighter and she has handled this new challenge with grace and style and she really knows how to rock a do-rag! She has undergone a double mastectomy, currently going through chemo and has radiation and reconstruction to look forward to but our team of friends have rallied around her, encouraged her, laughed with her, cried with her and will continue to support her throughout her fight. That ugly word has touched many of my loved ones throughout my life and it took my Papa, little Brian, my cousin Chris, my friend Marie, Mr. Cameron and Mrs. Katcoff away too soon but I know my friend is gonna CANNONBALL cancer! Please join our team and/or donate to help us kick cancer's butt!
See you at the Miracle Mile Walk on October 19th!
The Miracle Mile Walk supports University Hospital’s Randy W. Cooper, M.D., Center for Breast Health Services and Mobile Mammography Unit, which provide life-saving screenings to women in our community regardless of their ability to pay. No woman is ever turned away from the mobile unit! On behalf of University Health Care Foundation, and the patients whose lives are saved and myself, thank you for your partnership. Even if you can’t walk with me, you can support me every step of the way!
Please support my participation in this exciting event and help me reach my fundraising goal.
